Having Faith in Troubled Times
I went into the supermarket to get some stuff and happened to just go around looking at the price of things and what I saw shocked me. Some things have doubled in cost in the last one year and the truth is, we are feeling the effects of the skyrocketing fuel prices, increased cost of goods and food prices and the overall effects of a struggling economy. Just a year ago, we used to buy fuel at a cost of Kshs 68 for a litre of fuel. Cooking oil was selling at below Kshs 200 and many other items also were selling at about half of there current price. Our inflation rate then was below 10% but now its way above 20. When we get money, it seems to disappear faster than we can think on how to spend it. Thinking about all these is very gloomy and one wonders, "where are we headed?" As a father with two young girls, it's easy to be concerned about the future. But God has been constantly reminding me in the course of the week that He is our source regardless of what happens to the economy. It is He who provides for us regardless of the cost of petrol, gas, foodstuffs and all. I know I need to be wise in how I spend money but the Bible is also full of promises to believers whose confidence and trust is firmly in God. Did God provide for all the needs of the Israelites in the wilderness? Yes He did, manna from heaven, their clothes did not wear out and much more. Psalm 50:10 tells us that Our God owns all the cattle on a thousand hills. Think about it, if the cattle are His, that means He provides and takes care of them to? and if he can take care of cattle, how much us who believe in Him and worship Him? As Christians we are not super normal and therefore we tend to sometimes lose sight of who holds the future. We can have a great job, run a profitable business or make every effort to earn a good income and live well. But at the end of the day, it is only God who pours His blessings upon all our endeavors and causes us to prosper. Remember, the Bible says clearly that it is God who gives us the power to make wealth. I challenge you today to check your fears today and think about your faith. Consider your spending and seek to be money wise, continue giving to the work of the Lord. But don't panic, God is your source in this hard and difficult times. Keep your faith firmly in God for He is in charge!! Blessings Remember, ICC Mombasa sermons are available online at www.icc-mombasa.org/sermon.php
